"Does everyone else know?" I asked.
"I don't know. I think his mom only called me." He answered.
"I can't believe this." I said, and started crying again. Elizabeth walked out with two cups of tea and set them on the coffee table.
"Um, I'm suposed to go meet my sister, but-" She started to say.
"You can go. I'll be okay." I told her, wiping my eyes.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"Yeah." I said, and nodded. She quietly grabbed her purse and left.
"I knew Jason since 2nd grade." Jarrod said, leaning back onto the couch.
"I'm so sorry." I said.
"He was your friend too." He told me, and smiled. I shrugged. I hadn't known Jason real well. He was a real quiet person.
"He loved you." Jarrod said, and chuckled.
"What?" I asked.
"When Andy first introduced you to us, Jason thought you were great. He wouldn't stop talking about you, and Andy punched him in the arm." He explained.
"I didn't know that." I said.
"It's all so unreal, you know? Like he could come walking through the door right now." He said. We both looked up at the door, as if expecting him to. Like this was all some kind of lame joke or something. But of course he didn't.
Jarrod sighed, and I looked over at him, and took his hand in mine.
"The whole thing was so weird. Why did they go in the first place?" He asked.
"I don't know." I said, and remembered the day when they told us. I thought of slapping Andy, and felt a huge wave of guilt.
"Come here." Jarrod said, holding his arm out. I scooted closer to him, and rested my head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around me.
"This isn't fair." He said.
"I know." I told him. We sat like that for a few hours, talking and crying. We didn't move until Jarrod's phone rang. It was Charlene.
"I guess news travels fast." He said, and stood up. He walked into the kitchen to answer the phone.
